Multi-Region Failover — keep taking payments when a region goes down

An AWS regional event doesn't give you time to plan your failover architecture. Either the failover design exists before the event, or your payment stack is down until the region recovers. Design the multi-region payment architecture before you need it — and know exactly what your RTO and RPO are before an acquirer asks.

Why this matters

The specific outcomes this tool produces — and the problems it prevents.

Know your real RTO and RPO before an acquirer asks

Active-active, active-passive, and pilot light architectures produce fundamentally different RTO and RPO outcomes. An acquirer or enterprise customer asking for your payment system availability commitment needs a number backed by an architecture — not an aspiration.

Data consistency strategy defined before the failover, not during it

DynamoDB Global Tables, RDS Global Database, and Aurora Global Database have different consistency models and failover behaviours. The data consistency strategy for a payment system needs to be chosen before an event — not resolved under pressure with live cardholder data.

Traffic failover logic designed for payment workloads

Route 53 health checks and failover routing policies configured specifically for payment API endpoints — with the right health check intervals, failure thresholds, and DNS TTLs for your target RTO. Generic infrastructure failover settings aren't calibrated for payment SLAs.

Failover architecture exported as production-ready Terraform

Export the multi-region architecture as Terraform HCL ready to deploy. The architecture design and the infrastructure implementation are the same document — no translation gap between the diagram and what runs.

How it works

Structured inputs. Immediate output. No setup, no waiting, no consultant required.

1

Choose your failover architecture pattern

Select active-active, active-passive, or pilot light. Each pattern is modelled with its cost, complexity, RTO, and RPO implications for payment workloads specifically.

2

Select your primary and failover regions

Choose your AWS region pair. The tool identifies service availability differences between regions that affect payment architecture decisions.

3

Design your data replication strategy

Select the replication approach for each data store — DynamoDB Global Tables, RDS Global Database, or S3 Cross-Region Replication. See the consistency model and RPO implications of each choice.

4

Configure traffic failover

Define Route 53 health check parameters and failover routing policies. Set health check intervals, failure thresholds, and DNS TTLs calibrated to your RTO target.

5

Export the failover architecture

Download Terraform HCL for the complete multi-region stack with a runbook for triggering and validating failover.
