Architecture Decision Records — end the pre-assessment documentation scramble

QSAs ask why your payment architecture is built the way it is. Teams without ADRs spend 2–3 weeks recreating decision rationale under assessment pressure — reconstructing choices made 18 months ago from memory and Slack threads. Teams with ADRs hand over a document.

Why this matters

The specific outcomes this tool produces — and the problems it prevents.

Your QSA gets the same answer whether they ask you or read the ADR

Every decision documented consistently — context, rationale, security considerations, compliance implications. No inconsistency between what your engineer says in the interview and what the document says.

Show you evaluated the secure option — not just the convenient one

Documenting the three options you considered and why you chose the most security-appropriate one is the difference between a QSA who accepts your approach and one who writes it up as a risk.

PCI sub-requirements recorded at decision time, not reconstructed under pressure

Which PCI DSS requirements are affected by each architectural decision is captured when the decision is made — not reconstructed 12 months later during an assessment where you can't remember why you made the choice.

One document set that satisfies both QSAs and acquirers

Export a formatted ADR set that covers QSA evidence requirements and acquirer technical due diligence simultaneously. One document. Two audiences. No separate documentation effort.

How it works

Structured inputs. Immediate output. No setup, no waiting, no consultant required.

1

Name and date the decision

Give the architectural decision a clear, searchable title and the date it was made. This establishes the decision timeline for annual review compliance.

2

Describe the context and constraint

Explain what problem, compliance requirement, or technical constraint drove this decision. Context is what QSAs need to evaluate whether the decision was appropriate.

3

Record the decision, rationale, and security considerations

State what you decided, why, and what security implications were evaluated — including residual risk accepted. This field satisfies PCI DSS Requirement 6.2.

4

List alternatives considered

Document at least two other options that were evaluated with their security trade-offs. This is the evidence that the secure option was chosen deliberately.

5

Export your ADR set

Download a formatted document ready for your QSA evidence package, due diligence folder, or engineering wiki.
